Summer Competition FAQs

Yes. White Belts are welcome to book if they are ready for the experience. Parents should understand that White Belts may sometimes face students of a higher grade, although a handicap system may be used to help keep matches fairer.

Log in to the Members Area and go to Bookings > New Booking. If you are not booking the competition, you will need to order the belt separately through the shop.

That is absolutely fine. If your child does not want to compete but still wants their progress recognised, the in-class belt promotion is the best option.

Yes. Competition places are limited, so it is worth booking early rather than waiting.

Students up to and including Blue Belt who medal can choose to move up two belts instead of one. Gold, Silver, Bronze and Runner-Up medal positions all count for this option.

Yes. If a student up to Blue Belt medals and chooses to accept the double grade, there is an additional £5 fee to cover the extra belt and admin.

Double grades must be confirmed on the day. If your child earns a double grade, we will give them a grade oath to agree to, which confirms that they wish to accept it.

Parents will then need to purchase the belt through the shop in the Members Area. The belt will be given out at the next available class your child attends.

If your child is not able to collect the belt before we close for the summer, we will keep it ready for them when we return in September.

The in-class belt promotion is £20 and includes the new belt, but it does not include competition entry, medals or the double grade option.

Order the next belt in sequence. For example: White to Yellow, Yellow to Orange, Orange to Red, Red to Green, Green to Blue, Blue to Purple, Purple to Purple Stripe, Purple Stripe to Brown, Brown to Brown Stripe.

No. Competitors should remain in the designated area unless a member of staff gives permission.

They should tell a member of the team straight away. Referees can stop matches early for safety, including injury or other concerns.

In an emergency, staff take responsibility for competitors and everyone must follow staff instructions. Emergency exits and procedures will be explained at the start of the event.

Where possible, all competitors will get at least two matches. Brackets may include byes depending on numbers.

No. Head guards are no longer part of the competition requirements.

Only in Teen MA. For Teen MA, a submission or tap ends the match immediately and counts as the win. Submissions are not used in younger age groups.

Yes. Referees may stop a match early for safety reasons, including injury, excessive contact, repeated rule breaks, stalling or other unsafe behaviour.

No. Kata and forms are no longer part of this competition event.

Yes. All referee and judge decisions are final.

No. Spectators must not coach or shout instructions during matches.

No. Spectators must remain outside the competition area unless invited by staff.

Abusive language or poor behaviour towards competitors, coaches or officials can result in removal from the venue.

Yes, they are strongly expected to bring their own shin guards for the competition. Teen students may sometimes attend class without them, but for the competition they are strongly expected to own and bring their own pair.

Failure to follow the equipment requirements may mean your child is not able to compete.

Saturday 18 July at 2:30 PM is for the youngest members and is at ZKSMA HQ.

Sunday competition groups are at Fairford Leys Centre at 9:00 AM, 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM.

Once booked, use the relevant competition group page to check your child’s table, group and arrival information. Make sure you check the correct day, venue and time before travelling.
