Training Progress

How qualifying attendance supports each Review and the next progression stage.

What is a Review?

A Review is the ZKS progress checkpoint. Progression combines regular training, qualifying attendance, technical development, attitude and behaviour, successful Reviews and belt-specific requirements. Reviews and Belt Promotion are separate stages.

How to track your progress

  1. Log in to the Members Area.
  2. Find the correct member on the Member Dashboard.
  3. Scroll down their card, below Class Schedule, to Belt Progress.
  4. Check the current stage, recorded sessions and completed Reviews.

In this coloured-belt example, Stage 1 shows 1/8 sessions: one qualifying session recorded towards the eight needed for this stage. The 13% is the rounded session progress shown. 0/3 reviews means none of the three required Reviews has yet been recorded as completed.

Your figures depend on your belt and current stage. White Belts follow the First Review route. Reaching the attendance total does not itself complete a Review or award a belt; follow the invitation and booking instructions.

Anonymised member dashboard with Belt Progress highlighted: Stage 1, 13 percent, 1 of 8 sessions and 0 of 3 reviews.
Look for Belt Progress below the member’s class schedule. The figures shown are an example.

Does something look incorrect?

Send a Members Area message for the relevant member with the class or Review dates you believe are missing. ZKS can check the record before you book.

Minimum qualifying attendance

ZKS encourages regular training at every level. As students progress, the qualifying attendance required for Reviews increases. The following attendance must be recorded in the relevant Review period before the booking cut-off.

BeltMinimum qualifying sessions per Review periodExpected training frequency
White–Green8Once weekly can normally meet the minimum
Blue / Purple16Approximately twice per week
Brown / Brown Stripe24Approximately three times per week

Expected training frequency helps members reach the minimum qualifying Review attendance. It does not mean every member is contractually required to attend exactly that number every week. Keep training after reaching the minimum.

What counts?

Only qualifying regular timetable sessions actually attended and recorded normally count: your assigned class or a confirmed temporary replacement. Reviews, Belt Promotions, competitions, courses, seminars and special events do not normally count. Paying for a membership level is not recorded attendance. Sessions used for one Review cannot count again towards another.

Your next step

Booking is invitation-based and subject to the required attendance before the cut-off. White Belts follow the First Review route. Coloured belts follow Coloured Belt Reviews. White Belts need one successful First Review. Yellow to Brown Belt students normally need all three Reviews in the training year for July Belt Promotion eligibility. Brown Stripe students continue through Reviews towards the separate Junior Black Belt Grading where eligible. Check individual progress and invitations in the Members Area.

Competition is not a general requirement for belt progression.

The training year

The training year runs from 1 September to 31 August. Review attendance and progress reset on 1 September; achieved belts and historical records remain recognised. See the annual training cycle.
